Tad Daley will share with us the ancient dream, dating at least as far back as Dante, that someday something like a Federal Republic of the World could provide global solutions to global challenges (climate today paramount though hardly unique among them), eliminate permanent national armies (and military/industrial complexes), and save succeeding generations from the scourge of war. He will discuss the global governance innovations that might be enacted in September 2020 in NYC, during the world summit to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the United Nations — that just might move humanity in the direction of this destiny. And he will urge us all, right now, long before anything like a world republic might come into being, to declare our identities as global citizens, our loyalties as planetary patriots, and our allegiance not to the countries where we happen to have been born, but instead to all of humankind.
Tad Daley, JD, PhD, is the Director of Policy Analysis at Citizens for Global Solutions. CGS was founded in 1947, called then the United World Federalists, by an extraordinary group of luminaries including U.S. Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas, future U.S. Senators Harris Wofford, Paul Douglas, William Fulbright, and Alan Cranston, actors Bette Davis, Henry Fonda, and Ingrid Bergman, writers Oscar Hammerstein II, Thomas Mann, Clare Boothe Luce, Kurt Vonnegut Jr., and E.B. White, and TIME magazine’s Person of the 20th Century, Albert Einstein. Tad has served as a policy advisor, speechwriter or coauthor for former Congressman Dennis Kucinich, the late U.S. Senator Harris Wofford, and the late U.S. Senator Alan Cranston. And he is author of the book APOCALYPSE NEVER: Forging the Path to a Nuclear Weapon-Free World from Rutgers University Press. Tad will be speaking about these very same long term-dreams at 4 PM on November 2nd at the Peace Center, 3916 Sepulveda in Culver City, in a live onstage conversation with Gene Roddenberry Jr. — son of the legendary creator of Star Trek.
