LA’s New System – National Legislation overview – Ballot Images – CA Fraudholes Still To Close
Join some of America’s greatest experts on election protection for a total immersion in the issues that will determine the electoral future of Los Angeles County, California and the nation. From stripping voter rolls to flipping electronic vote counts and beyond, this is the essential exploration of our stricken voting system.
Mimi Kennedy, Moderator: Mimi Kennedy, actress (MOM on CBS)/author/activist is a member of the Board of Progressive Democrats of America. A founding member of California Election Protection Network, she worked to elect Debra Bowen as Secretary of State, who restored California to paper ballots. On LA County’s Citizen Voter Outreach Committee she helped stop then-Registrar
Connie McCormack from purchasing Diebold touchscreens for the county, and then from buying ES&S tabulator that relied on memory cards. A member of LA’s Voting Systems Advisory Panel to develop principles for the new system, she won a pitched battle for a human-readable paper ballot counted independent from the touchscreen that produces it. As PDA Advisory Chair, she gave brief Congress on the dangers of software counts, even of paper ballots, in 2006. She will present on national election legislation and the urgent need to overturn AB 840’s exemption of late-counted ballots from audit. Her articles for LA Progressive on AB 840 and national election “track conditions” can be found here.
John Brakey founded AuditAZ and won several lawsuits establishing citizen access to election data as public record, as well as revealing county corruption. He will explain the “Brakey Method” whereby he seeks to do the same nationally, using state by state court action to establish that ballot images made by digital scanners as public records to fortify citizen access for transparent counts when access to paper ballots is denied. His investigations have changed Arizona election law, including ending the practice of auditing by second scan insteada of by hand. He helped publicize Bev Harris’ landmark expose of Fraction Magic, the capacity of counting software from Diebold/Premier/Dominio, ES&S, and HartIntercivic to obey rigged programs that divide single votes into fractions and re-allocate them to achieve a pre-determined outcome.
Harvey Wasserman is a leading national election integrity, No Nukes (he helped invent the phrase), solar energy activist. With Bob Fitrakis, he has written some of the most comprehensive analyses of stolen elections: What Happened in Ohio: A Documentary Record of Theft and Fraud in the 2004 Election; How the GOP Stole America’s 2004 Election and Is Rigging 2008; The Strip & Flip Disaster of America’s Stolen Elections; Updated “Trump” Edition of Strip and Flip Selection of 2016. His next book is “The Life & Death Spiral of US History: From Deganawidah to the Trumpocalypse,” due out soon from Solartopian Media. He will present on immediate and long-term solutions to our lethal lack of publicy-verifiable national election integrity.
Judy Alter has led LA County citizens in election oversight for over a decade with Protect California Ballots (.org). As part of Recount New Mexico 2004, she identified that the straight party vote did not list a vote for president. That discovery helped explain the huge under-vote in 16 states that used straight party voting. She presented this analysis anywhere she could wrangle an invitation, despite skeptical opposition and ridicule from many quarters, informed or not. She will present on the dangers of post-Debra Bowen CA election legislation, and her solutions for correcting the errors.
Emily Levy has been a leader in the election integrity movement since 2004, when she coordinated the first phase of the precinct-level statistical forensic investigation into the presidential election in Ohio. She has worked on election integrity projects in her home state of California as well as in Arizona, New York, Wisconsin, Nevada, and New Mexico. Her writings on election integrity have been published by The Hill, Op-Ed News, and The BRAD BLOG.
Jim Soper, co-chair, Voting Rights Task Force (Northern CA), author of CountedAsCast.org, and senior software consultant. Jim will be discussing recent election legislation in California, auditing and election technology.
